OrthoVirginia Welcomes Two New Physicians in Southwest Virginia

OrthoVirginia is pleased to announce Matthew C. Jones, M.D., MS, and Kaitlin Mahoney, D.O., CAQSM, have joined OrthoVirginia in Southwest Virginia.

Dr. Jones, a hand, wrist and elbow surgeon, attended Mercer University for his undergraduate education and earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He attended the Medical College of Georgia for his medical degree and orthopedic surgery residency and completed a hand and upper extremity fellowship at Brown University.

Dr. Jones is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Mahoney, a primary care sports medicine and nonoperative orthopedics specialist, attended McDaniel College for her undergraduate education and earned her doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the New York Institute of Technology. She completed a family medicine residency at Peconic Bay Medical Center and a primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Mahoney is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Caprise, Jr., M.D., Regional Vice President of OrthoVirginia – West. “Dr. Mahoney brings primary care sports medicine expertise to care for anyone who is active, and Dr. Jones adds specialized care for hands, wrists and elbows,” he added.

In the Southwest Virginia offices Dr. Jones and Dr. Mahoney join Anita Vijapura, M.D., a physiatrist and pain medicine specialist, S. Brett Whitfield, M.D., FAAOS, an orthopedic surgeon, and Bart Eastwood, D.O., an orthopedic surgeon. With a well-rounded team, patients can stay in their own community for orthopedic care.

Dr. Jones joined the practice August 23 and is accepting new patients at our Blacksburg, Bluefield, Christiansburg, and Wytheville locations. Dr. Mahoney joined the practice September 7 and will be accepting new patients at our Blacksburg, Bluefield, Christiansburg, and Wytheville locations.
