Bio

Sammie Johnson, LPTA, graduated from the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Tidewater Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree, Summa Cum Laude Honors with distinction, in 2023.  Prior to that, Sammie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA, in 2006 with a major in Dance Performance and a minor in Journalism, also Summa Cum Laude Honors with distinction.  There, she received the Starmakers Scholarship Award for the class of 2006.  She began performing at the age of 14 and has since had a 20-year career in dance, performing in theaters and on cruise ships around the world.  Following her own injuries and subsequent knee surgeries, she pursued a career in physical therapy with a passion for helping people the way she had been helped when she was injured.  Since then, she has completed many clinical rotations and has had the honor of working with some of the best clinicians in sports medicine at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Virginia Beach, where she specialized in sports therapy, including dance, gymnastics, and all competitive and recreational athletics.  Her extensive dance background provides a unique perspective in the world of physical therapy and allows her to utilize many different tools to help patients with their rehab.

Sammie began working with OrthoVirginia in Virginia Beach as Therapy Technician in 2020, and she was excited to be continuing her career with the company as Physical Therapist Assistant since earning her license in 2023.  She enjoys helping the members of the Virginia Beach community return to what they love to do.

Sammie currently resides in Virginia Beach with her husband.  She loves to travel, spend time at the beach, hang out with family and friends, and most of all, take ballet class!  She hopes to return to the stage sometime this year.
