Name Change Coincides with the Opening of a New, State-of-the-Art Building Dedicated to Orthopedic Specialty Care
West End Orthopaedic Clinic has announced that they are changing the name of their practice to OrthoVirginia. Coinciding with the name change will be the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility, completely dedicated to orthopedic specialty care and sports medicine, at the Boulders near Chippenham Hospital, where its Chippenham Clinic and administrative office will move.
The new name more accurately reflects the many locations the practice serves, not only in its home base of Richmond, but also in all locations throughout central Virginia, as well as the total range of high-quality specialty orthopedic care and services available through the practice. The new facility reinforces the practice’s commitment to total quality care for each patient.
“While our name is changing, what stays the same are the hallmarks of our practice that we are known for – including an unparalleled group of physician specialists and supporting experts who make up one of the most focused and cohesive medical specialty teams in the region,” said Anthony J. We feel that our new name and our new Chippenham facility reinforce those commitments.”

The new OrthoVirginia office will be located at the Boulders near Chippenham Hospital. This location will provide patients with a brand-new, easily accessible and centrally located state-of-the-art facility that brings orthopedic patient care all under one roof. Services will include diagnosis and treatment of a range of orthopedic issues, physical therapy, occupational therapy and imaging. An outpatient surgical facility will open at this location in 2012.
OrthoVirginia physician specialists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, occupational therapists, technicians and staff moved into the building in mid-June, and patients will be scheduled at the new facility the week of June 27. OrthoVirginia’s administrative offices are now located there, along with their electronic medical records technology (in compliance with new healthcare regulations).
The Boulders building has been under construction for one year and will continue to be developed for the next year. It is also the future home of the HCA Virginia Sports Medicine Clinic, scheduled to open in 2012. With the addition of this clinic, the building will offer even more services within the facility – including wellness, performance training and sports medicine. The clinic will offer an unparalleled sports assessment facility that includes an indoor pool (with underwater treadmill and video capabilities), basketball court, tennis backboard, pitching mound, sprint track, sand rehab area and a synthetic turf area.

These Ortho On Call clinics provide a cost-effective alternative to emergency room visits for individuals with muscle and bone injuries and other non-life-threatening orthopaedic conditions requiring immediate care. The continuing success of these office-based evening and Saturday services points to the need for new locations. Two new Ortho On Call clinics are planned to open later this year – one in Hanover and one in Chippenham.

OrthoVirginia currently offers 40 physician specialists in multiple subspecialties, bringing a depth of knowledge and breadth of experience to the practice. History of West End Orthopaedic Clinic
West End Orthopaedic Clinic originated in the early 1900s with the practice of Drs. H. Page Mauck, R.D. Butterworth and William E. Daner at the location of 5th and Franklin Streets in downtown Richmond. The modern practice has its beginnings with Dr. John F. Butterworth III, who joined in 1957. At that time, the practice moved to the 900 N. Hamilton Street location, considered at the time to be the far West End of Richmond.
