Being kind to the planet and staying active go hand-in-hand. While not every person can do every action, here are some ideas of ways that you can incorporate both.

Walk or bike instead of driving

Walking or biking for short trips near your home is a great alternative to driving. If you have a backpack, rolling cart, bike basket or pannier bags, you can carry things like groceries.

Garden

Pulling weeds out by hand or digging a hole for a new plant can work up a sweat! It’s physical work you can do regularly all spring or summer, and in return you can get flowers, food and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Pick up litter while you walk

Next time you take a walk around your neighborhood, bring a bag and pick up any litter that you see. Even kids can help spot it! If you’re in an area where there might be glass, make sure you have thick gloves and are careful when picking it up.

Use a reusable water bottle

As you’re exercising, make sure to stay hydrated! A reusable water bottle, filled from your tap or from the water fountain at the gym, is a more sustainable (and cheaper) choice than a one-time-use version.
