Non-operative kyphosis treatment

Kyphosis is a curve of the spine that causes extra rounding in the back. Time, physical therapy, and bracing can help correct it.

If kyphosis is caused by posture, physical therapy and being conscious of the issue can correct it.

If the kyphosis is caused by the bones in the spine not being the correct shape, more in-depth treatment may be needed. For younger teenagers, wearing a brace most or all of the time for several months or more may help the spine become straighter. Physical therapy may also be helpful.

Anti-inflammatory medication can help control pain, but they don’t help correct the problem.

If non-surgical treatment doesn’t work and the curve of the spine causes pain, kyphosis surgery may be helpful.
