MRI and CT
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) are ways of getting detailed pictures of the inside of your body without surgery. MRI machines use a powerful magnet, radio waves, and computer technology to make the pictures, while CT machines use advanced x-ray technology. Both MRIs and CTs help doctors to diagnose your exact problem and make sure they can give you the correct treatment for it.
OrthoVirginia offers MRIs in the Lynchburg area, Northern Virginia, and the Richmond area and CT in the Richmond area.
OrthoVirginia’s MRIs are accredited by the American College of Radiology.

MRI Locations
Lynchburg Area
Lynchburg now offers the 1.5T Hitachi Echelon Oval MRI, which offers highly sensitive technology and superior images to our previous MRI. The patient table and MRI opening are the largest available, giving patients more space and making the experience more comfortable. The technologist operating the MRI can also communicate face-to-face with your orthopedist to ensure we get the imaging needed to determine the best treatment plan for you.
The Lynchburg office accepts outside referrals for orthopedic MRIs. Outside physicians who want to schedule a patient for an MRI at OrthoVirginia should call 434-485-8521 or should use the MRI scheduling guide and fax the necessary information to 434-485-8599 Attn: MRI Team.

A CT machine creates cross-sectional images of bones, organs, blood vessels, and soft tissues with high precision. Patients can expect the CT scan to be used for diagnosing conditions, infections, and bone fractures, as well as for surgical planning. The procedure is non-invasive, typically quick, and often used when doctors need more information than standard X-rays can provide.
