Dr. Michael Fox is a fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon specializing in surgical and non-surgical care of knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, and ankle injuries. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He further specialized by completing a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at Duke University, where he provided care for high level athletes, including Duke Men’s Basketball and Football teams.

Whether working with young athletes or weekend warriors, Dr. Fox gets the most joy from seeing his patients regain their quality of life and get back to doing their most fulfilling activities. Dr. Fox believes in shared decision-making with his patients, working together to develop an individualized treatment plan for their needs and goals. He is trained in the cutting-edge and minimally invasive sports medicine procedures, and is an award-winning researcher who has presented his findings at national and international sports medicine conferences.

Dr. Fox is a native of Fairfax County, and he enjoys exploring the many parks and hiking trails, as well as the incredible international food and culture in the area. He is also diehard DC and Pittsburgh sports fan.

Bio

Dr. Michael Fox is a fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon specializing in surgical and non-surgical care of knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, and ankle injuries. He was first introduced to orthopedic surgery after being diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. His conversations with his surgeon, combined with his own research, cultivated his interest in the field. Inspired by the care he received, he hoped to offer the same support to patients facing similar challenges during their surgeries and recoveries.

Dr. Fox attended medical school at the University of Virginia and completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was naturally drawn to the specialty of sports medicine through his background playing sports and the mentorship he received from legendary sports medicine surgeons, including Dr. Freddie Fu. He further specialized by completing a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at Duke University, where he provided care for high level athletes including Duke Men’s Basketball and Football teams, and served as a medical consultant for NCAA events and the NBA combine.

Whether working with young athletes or weekend warriors, Dr. Fox gets the most joy from seeing his patients regain their quality of life and get back to doing their most fulfilling activities. Dr. Fox believes in shared decision-making with his patients, working together to develop an individualized treatment plan for their needs and goals using the highest-level techniques. He is trained in the cutting-edge and minimally invasive sports medicine procedures, and is an accomplished researcher with over 30 published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Fox has presented his research at national and international sports medicine conferences and has received multiple awards for his research endeavors. He also reviews for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Journal, and Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Fox is a diehard DC and Pittsburgh sports fan. He is a native of Fairfax County, and enjoys being active, working out, running, and hiking in the amazing parks in the area. A proud foodie, he enjoys exploring the incredible international food and culture found in the DMV. He is also a former collegiate drummer and enjoys making and listening to music and attending live concerts.
