Betsy Kohnke, OTR, CHT

Betsy is a certified hand therapist at our Chippenham location. She was raised in the metro Washington D.C area where she received a B.S in Occupational Therapy from Howard University in 1987. She began her career on the Shock Trauma Unit at the Washington Hospital Center. It was there that her journey as a hand therapist began. She moved to Richmond in 1989 and has had the privilege of working in several hand therapy centers in the area including Orthopedic Specialist, Hand Surgery Specialist, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital Sports and Occupational Rehab Center, Virginia Hand Center before moving to OrthoVirginia in 2014.

Betsy has developed and managed Industrial Rehabilitation programs in several hand centers and also has extensive background experience in traumatic hand injuries. She has experience in the educational setting as well having the opportunity to lecture to physician, nursing, therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling Specialists, radiologic technologists, business and community groups on return to work programs, injury prevention and management, work conditioning programs, industrial rehabilitation, ergonomic abatement programs (certified ergonomic evaluator), hand rehabilitation, arthritis management (certified Arthritis Foundation Self-help leader) , and splinting.

Betsy is also a mother of 2 very active daughters and enjoys training and showing dogs in Agility competitions, riding and training horses, kayaking, hiking and catching up on sleep.
