Recovery from Horseback Riding Hip Injury
It was 2 days after I arrived for my junior year of college when I fell off a horse while at riding practice. I was thrown off and trying to roll away as she landed with her shoulder on my hip. I went to the emergency room and was on crutches, but unable to walk due to significant hip pain. I went to OrthoVirginia and consulted with an orthopedic surgeon who reviewed my MRI. I had an arthroscopic labral repair and femoraplasty on my hip. My surgeon was amazing; he told me from my first appointment what surgery and recovery would look like. It took time, but I’m back to riding again and had the best season of my college career—I even won first place! – Emma B.
