Bilateral hip replacement

Bilateral hip replacement means replacing both hip joints in total hip replacement surgeries. The surgeries may be done at the same time or at different times.

In a total hip replacement, parts of a hip joint are removed and replaced. If you have arthritis in your hip joint, have broken a hip bone, or have some other conditions, you may need to have a total hip replacement. If you have the condition or injury in both hip bones you may need to have a bilateral hip replacement.

Bilateral hip replacements may be done at the same time in both hips, or you may have one hip replaced and then have the second hip replaced. Your surgeon will talk with you about which option is right for you.
