Dr. Lawhorn developed a new Meniscal repair system that was FDA approved over a year ago. It is proving to be an exciting advancement in arthroscopic meniscal repair. The implant is novel in that it is knotless and all suture with improved biomechanical properties compared to the traditional devices that use rigid plastic anchors and suture knots. Dr. Keith Lawhorn and Biomet Sports Medicine have developed a new device to repair torn meniscus (cartilage) in the knee. This new device, Maxfire MarXmen is an arthroscopic meniscal repair system enabling the surgeon to repair torn cartilage in the knee using only a small hole in the skin and joint. This device allows surgeons to sew the meniscus tear together using a knotless all-suture repair device.
