T. Paul McDermott, Jr., MD
On Dec 20, 2016, I chose to have hand surgery By Dr. McDermott at the facility in Henrico. I chose this, as my insurance was changing in January 2017, and this provider would no longer be a covered provider. As I told him, through my years of experience as an OT as well as research and anecdotal reports, I knew I would trust my right hand to him and the staff at AO.
While I am still in recovery stages, I anticipate a successful outcome. I did want to comment , though, on my experience at the surgery center.
At VCU Health, we have a mission of STAR service – Safety, Trust, Attitude, Respect. May I say everyone I came in contact with exceeded those attributes?
I was so impressed and reassured from the first transition back to the surgi center by the personal and person centered attitude demonstrated from nursing, techs and doctors. I observed a very busy, organized, clean and patient focused environment. All personnel interacted with each other, but in a patient centered focus… not chatting over the patient about personal stuff, or treating me as a lump in the bed. I just cannot express how well everyone did their job and made it a safe and comforting environment for me.
Please thank Jenny in admission, Kristy in pre –op ( who was VERY reassuring), OR Nurse whose name I cannot read, Dr Booth, anesthesia who opened the bar (great job) and Martha in recovery who was patient and tactful with my wooziness.
You have a great team and culture!
