B. Thomas Mazahery, MD
Thanks to my care at OrthoVirginia, I can... In less than one year, do most things that I did before the car slammed into me, fracturing five neck vertebrae and crushing my spinal cord, resulting in a diagnosis of Central Cord Syndrome. Some questioned whether I would be able to walk again.
Now I am able to walk unaided and am jogging, having recently completed a 5K (3.1 miles) race, completing the race faster than more than 50 fellow competitors. I continue to increase my speed over time and continue to get stronger. I can mow the lawn and drive cars without difficulty and can do virtually all household activities with little to no modifications.
Most of the numbness, burning and tingling has subsided or gone away over the year and I am told that it is likely that it will all go away in time.
It is a very sobering thing to open your eyes, face down, on the street, to be bleeding, and not be able to move anything. Things looked very dark and bleak then and the first days after the accident. My sincere thanks and gratitude go to Dr. Mazahery and other physicians at OrthoVirginia for their skill and expertise which has contributed greatly to me being able to reclaim the physical abilities to function strongly in the daily activities of life.
