Commonwealth Orthopaedics is sponsoring the Second Annual Rockstar Run 8k and one mile fun run in Burke, Va on April 10 (register here). The event benefits The Celebrate Cherie Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to deserving students pursuing careers in physical therapy. The fund was established to honor Cherie Amor Yadao, a physical therapist and manager for Commonwealth Orthopaedics in Arlington. On August 29, 2009, Cherie’s life was cut short at the age of 35 after a valiant fight against a rare cancer, extra pulmonary small cell carcinoma. To the end, Cherie lived life to the fullest and touched so many lives in the process.
To know Cherie is to understand her favorite saying, “Party like a Rockstar.” Cherie approached life with the same dedication and compassion seen in her work. Whether it was springboard diving- her favorite sport, intramural flag football with fellow UNC alumni, snowboarding with coworkers and friends, or volunteering at community events, Cherie was the consummate teammate. Her passion for giving and helping aided many patients in their recovery. Cherie challenged those who knew her to go after their dreams and have fun along the way. Her energy and enthusiasm were infectious. Cherie wasn't the life of the party - she was the party.
The Rockstar Run 8k run/1mile fun walk celebrates the essence of Cherie--- her spirit of adventure, her tenacity and her insatiable zest for life. Even facing death, she was determined to fight. Proceeds from this race will go to The Celebrate Cherie Scholarship Fund to help physical therapy students pursue their dream of helping others as Cherie did.
Cherie Yadao was physical therapist and manager in the Arlington office at Commonwealth Orthopaedics.
