Knee Arthroscopy Allows Patients Quicker Recovery

John McConnell, MD practices out of our Arlington and Tysons offices.

Arthroscopy has revolutionized the treatment of meniscal and ligament injuries of the knee. Surgeries that previously required large incisions can now be done through small holes with fiber optic television cameras. Patients have less pain, less disruption of normal tissues and much quicker recoveries. This allows our patients “to get back to their lives” in a much shorter time.

It takes up to six weeks for the knee joint to re-establish normal joint fluid after arthroscopic surgery. Because of this, you may not realize the benefits of your surgery for four to six weeks. There is a high degree of variability in recovery times.
